We Remember Scott Weiland

I was soooo reluctant to do it but on the first anniversary of Scott Weiland’s death I could not wait any longer and had to make a little tombstone for him on this virtual graveyard. You can see it here, of course you are free to leave comments and share your memories about him and his music. During the upcoming week I will be posting the impressions of other musicians, stay tuned.

Bring Grunge Sound Back: Stone Temple Pilots ‘Plush’

I was thinking a lot today about to the victory of You Know Who in today’s elections and I am feeling like the parent of a troubled teenager wondering, Where did I make the mistake? What happened that we allowed the world to go this way? Why didn’t we see the warning signs? Why didn’t we pay attention when there was still time to react? Why is the politics full of narrow-minded sexist and xenophobic assholes who sell easy solutions to complicated matters?

In the nineties the future seemed bright, why did we screw it?

We cannot get that time of our life back but we can remind ourselves what was the priority during that decade. This blog is not about politics but about the values and I am going to resurrect the spirit of those times at least a little bit by starting a new cycle Bring Grunge Sound Back. I hope that music from the nineties will make you think of what was important back then.

Starting with one of the most iconic bands: in 1993 Stone Temple Pilots were guests at Ray Cokes’ programme Most Wanted on MTV and here is their performance.

Nirvana and Stone Temple Pilots Covering David Bowie’s Songs

Exegi monumentum
perennius aere
altiusque
situ regali
pyramidum(…)
Non moriar omnis
parsque multa mei
uitabit Libitinam

I have completed a monument
More lasting than bronze and far higher
Than that royal pile of Pyramids (…)
My end won’t be complete, and a great
Part of me will evade the death god

Horace, Odes III.30 (translated by Peter Saint-Andre)

Artists never die completely.

Thank you David Bowie

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS ‘ANDY WARHOL’

Scott Weiland Has Passed Away

To wake up and hear such sad news is not a good beginning of Friday at all… 😦

Let me commemorate him with Creep, my favourite song of Stone Temple Pilots.

And I’ll have to make yet another little valley in this virtual graveyard.

Sigh.
