Frances Bean Cobain Shares Unreleased Photos Of Kurt Cobain On Singer’s 51st Birthday

from Consequence of Sound

Today would have been the 51st birthday of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain. His daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, commemorated the occasion by unearthing two never-before-seen photos of her father.

One is of Kurt and his daughter playing in a kiddie pool, the other features him posing for the camera while wearing a Breeders t-shirt. “I hope they don’t have the internet wherever you are. I feel like that would be counterproductive,” Frances captioned her photo. “Regardless, Happy Birthday to an angel.”

Kurt’s wife, Courtney Love, also honored her husband. “happy birthday baby god I miss you,” she wrote beneath a photo of the two together.

1200 Musicians Play Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’

Happy New Year! I hope 2018 will be better than the previous one and will bring us much more joy. I was overwhelmed by all the sad events that happened in 2017 and was seriously thinking of quitting this blog but now I am more than sure that I should continue no matter what.

So I am eventually planning to prepare the place for Chris Cornell and to post more or less regularly in 2018. Don’t expect the flood of new content but I think one new post a week is a reasonable goal.

Let’s start this year with one of the uplifting events that took place last year. See yourselves what happens when 1200 people gather to play Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit 😀 Read the coverage of this concert here and listen to their cover below. I just wish Kurt could see this! ❤

Chris Cornell’s Funeral (Part 1)

I really hate writing here recently.

But I have to.

We need to keep the memory alive so that the ones we love remain alive as well.

Here are some news from the last week’s funeral of Chris Cornell, I suspect you must have already seen them in various rock magazines but I will gather them all here. Part 1 today and soon you will see Part 2. I will be also adding gradually all the tributes to Chris that various artists have performed, stay tuned.

 Chester Bennington Singing ‘Hallelujah’

Chris Cornell was laid to rest during a private funeral service held at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Forever Cemetery on Friday afternoon. As part of the service, Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington, a close friend and godfather to one of Cornell’s children, sang Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”. Video of the touching tribute has now surfaced and you can hear a snippet here.

Bennington was just one of several notable musicians who participated in Cornell’s funeral service. The singer’s former bandmates Kim Thayil, Matt Cameron, and Tom Morello all made remarks. Many others were in attendance, including: Metallica’s James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich; Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, and Pat Smear; Nirvana’s Krist Novoselic; Courtney Love; Jane’s Addiction’s Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro; and Alice in Chains’ Jerry Cantrell.

Soundgarden music played from a portable speaker outside the cemetery’s gates as a group of about a dozen fans gathered outside. Chauffeured cars and sport utility vehicles arrived carrying mourners, including Cornell’s widow and his two youngest children, for a private service on the Fairbanks Lawn at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Rows of white chairs and floral arrangements were set out under overcast sky. Audioslave’s “Like a Stone” played from speakers.
